- Perfect for the mid-range gaming pc - Jack, 19 September 2017
Recently rebuilt my i5 4670K system into a new case and upgraded the stock Intel cooler with this 212X. Installation is a bit of a faff so I recommend removing your board and installing it outside of the case. Package comes with a bunch of screws and mounts so pay attention to the installation guide. Included is enough thermal paste I reckon to remove the cooler for cleaning a few times unless the thermal paste dries up in the tube or something, idk. Ram clearance is not an issue on my 87 chipset board.
The fan is virtually silent at normal speeds but haven't heard it at full speed yet because CPU does not get hot enough. Temps are a massive improvement over stock cooler. According to HWmonitor 1.31, CPU set to boost up to 3.8ghz and at a room temp ~23c:
- idle ~ 28-30c;
- Max temp after installing and extracting various software 39c
- closed case gaming test 47c. (stock cooler @ max 3.2ghz reached 70+ celsius open case in the same game playing the same mission)
Satisfied with the performance and the price. Does not look very high tech or fancy like some other coolers but for the average user should get the job done above and beyond and then some. - Good Value For Money - Eugene, 21 January 2015
This CPU cooler is amongst the most popular budget coolers in the enthusiast community for many years now and that's for a good reason, it gives you performance near the premium air cooling units for half the price. The only crappy part is that cooler master still continue to use that rubbish scissor design for the mounting hardware, it's a real pain in the ass to install onto a board that's already mounted and perhaps even more so in a mid-tower case. However mounting is a once in a while thing so all in all this is a seriously good deal. The fan is a bit loud if cranked up all the way, but for the most part it will be the last thing you hear on your system. I live on the coast in KZN so its mostly hot a humid here, I tested it on an i5 4690k at standard clock running prime 95's small fft's test for 5 min and got a max temp reading of 69 degrees while the ambient temp of the room was 31 degrees. It's gonna give you roughly 30 degrees improvement over the stock Intel cooler.
