- Excellent purchase - Rohan, 2 June 2016
First of all I'd like to give Wootware my thanks for their brilliant service. Secondly this card is brilliant, truly worth buying
- R9 390 better - Robert, 11 April 2016
I had a Powercolor R9 390 before I bought this GTX970. The R9 390 performed better for me. The GTX970 is a great card but I prefer the R9 390.
- Best for the price - Jacques, 13 March 2016
First of all, the service you get from Wootware is the best. I have done fair share of shopping online and Wootware beats them all.
The card it self is the best you can buy for this price. With a little OC on the the card it will match a stock GTX 980. I will only be playing on 1080p so should be good enough to max out any game for the next 3-4 years.
I am a very happy gamer.
Thanks Wootware. - Good quality and service - Munro, 5 January 2016
Received my order quickly and card is working great
- Mind blowing performance! - Jaco, 16 November 2015
First up - the quality and service of Wootware is the best I've ever had. Amazing product at the lowest price (at time of writing), speedy service and delivery (which only took 1 day) equals one very, very satisfied customer! 10 STARS!!
Secondly - this graphics card.
I bought and played Fallout 4 on 13 November 2015. I had and i5 Intel Processor overclock to 3.5Ghz, 16 Gig DDR3 Ram overclocked to 2400Mhz and a nVidia 650GTX graphics card.
I could only play the game on low / medium graphics as everything looked bland and suffered with some lag issues.
After installing this card, it boosted performance though the roof. I could run Fallout 4 on Ultra High settings, with no hassles what so ever!!!
If you want something on a price vs performance budget, you can't go wrong with this card.
Highly, highly recommended!! :) - Pure Awesomeness! - Dewald, 12 November 2015
This is my first ever Nvidia card, after having been a member of "Team Red" for a number of years. I've not even heard of Galax before I bought this card. It is a great looking card and seems like brilliant build quality. Love the all-metal casing and the backplate is exquisite. It exceeds all my expectations. I'm so chuffed! I'm able to play all my games on Ultra settings and get excellent FPS. Card runs much cooler, has great clock speeds out of the box and uses less power. And all this for EXCELLENT value! Thanks again Wootware! FTW!
- This. - Eon, 30 October 2015
Firstly, Kudos to the Wootware team for dealing with me and assisting me along the way to my purchase of this GPU. Wonderful customer service (from good people I have met personally).
This card has a high value for the price that it costs - heck - for this quality I wouldn't have been surprised if I had to pay around R7000. I am not very good with reviews, but here was my observations in comparison to the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 (which was an astounding card for his time)
Using the Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward Benchmark tool (higher scores are better):
GTX 670 - Maximum graphics @ Direct X 9 - scored 8288 points
GTX 970 - Maximum graphics @ Direct X 9 - scored 12321 points
GTX 970 - Maximum graphics @ Direct X 11 - scroed 11682 points
This card performs around 43% - 48% better than the GTX 670. Most the games I play now flatlines at 60FPS and it feels amazing.
Once again, thank you Wootware! - Excellent bang for buck - FaffaKnoetze, 14 August 2015
Bit the bullet and upgraded my GTX 680 after indulging in quite a few reviews on this EXOC iteration of the GALAX GTX 970. At the price this was a steal, and the support from Wootware was sublime. I was updated on every single step of the ordering process. Online support(Jaco, at the time) immediately assisted with ETA on stock, and after my order was processed I could track it accordingly. I haven't experienced this level of service in RSA in quite a while, hats off to the Wootware crew - there are a lot of local e-tailers that could learn from you guys when it comes to customer service and provocativeness.
Back to the card. The build quality is astounding, better than most GTX970's, especially if you take the pricing in to consideration. It has a nice solid back plate, which will not only support the PCB in terms of flexing, but also assists in passively cooling the VRAM. Well that, and it's aesthetically pleasing! There's also a metal shroud instead of the plastic found on most cards. The only initial drawback was coil whine, which was really annoying, but which fortunately disappeared as I continued running benchmarks (±10 mins in).
Speaking of benchmarks, compared to my outgoing GTX 680, the GTX 970 managed a 65% increase in avg frame rate in Unigine Heaven 4, and a 56% increase in Firestrike, one of the more demanding tests in 3D Mark 13. I also maxed out GTA V, save for MSAA on 4x and it hit 60-70FPS constantly. In terms of thermals, the card managed to shave off a whopping 23°C under full load, really impressive stuff. This should make for a decent OC if need be. Galax have really done a stellar job on this GPU.
Thanks Wootware for the excellent experience, I shall be conducting business with you in the very near future. - Very Impressed - J.D., 28 July 2015
I bought this card to upgrade some of the parts on my current setup. I went from a GTX 460 to this GTX 970. I read a lot of reviews and I must say, this card exceeded all my expectations.
Great card, with a great look and excellent stock performance as well. This card runs very quietly and I got a max of 65c while playing BF4 on 1080p maxed out at 100-120fps on my old i5-760 CPU.
I am recommending this card to anyone who's looking at buying one. - Absolutely BEAST - Pieter, 26 June 2015
At R5000, you won't get any Nvidia card with this much power in SA. Its so quiet, it even has fan management, where it only uses one of the fans while the card is below 40C. As soon as it goes beyond that, then the second fan starts to spin. GTA5 on ultra settings only goes up to 47c. Great buy! Highly recommended!
Shipping only took 20 hours from Cape Town to Oudtshoorn. I actually don't have a game that stresses the card atm. - Update of my previous review - Eugene, 11 June 2015
I've had this card since Wootware stocked it on 09/12/2014 if I'm not mistaken, stock standard this card was a beast with boost clock of 1392mhz, but I decided to test it's overclocking potential. You have the option of using Galax's own xtreme tuner software which has an easy tune button that got me up to 1442 mhz and 7.2 ghz on memory with stock voltage and that's available with just one click. Then if you take some time to manually tune I got mine to run at 1501 mhz and 7.8 ghz memory all still with stock voltage (really only takes like 10 mins and then some stability testing). The temps are mostly under 65 but occasionally go up to 72 at most and that's with high ambient room temps here on the KZN north coast. I can't begin to describe how happy I am with this purchase, will probably buy another one for an sli config soon. This is probably the best gtx 970 on the market and the service you get from Wootware makes it a really attractive offer, don't let the gtx 970 memory scandal put you off the card is still a beast and I can run every game at ultra on a 1080p screen so I highly recommend this card.
Previous Review (Posted on 14/12/2014):
When I received this card I wasn't sure about how good the build quality would be compared to the more reputable brands such as MSI, Asus and Gigabyte but to my surprise this card matches if not betters them. It also has fantastic performance and is as far as I can tell the fastest factory overclocked card currently on the market. If I had to point out a few flaws then perhaps the lack of some of the luxuries you'd get with bigger brands is definitely an area that could be improved, also the card produces a lot of heat so it will no be suited to compact cases and it also is a bit noisy at full tilt however I wouldn't call this a deal breaker. Overall I'd recommend this card for it's sheer value for money and premium build quality. 8.5/10 rating - Great bang for buck - Jaco, 22 April 2015
I'm very impressed with the product. The build quality is excellent, and it runs very quietly, even under full load. I bought it for R4899 under promotion, and I don't think there's any other cards that matches this one (in terms of performance) for the price. GTA5 looks incredible with almost all settings maxed out, and running butter smooth. Wootware's service was excellent.
- Awesome - Dewald, 23 March 2015
Well as usual Wootware's service was second to none, always a pleasure buying here. The card is a beast! It uses 5w less at full load than my old 660OC and wipes the floor with it performance wise. I just started playing Dying Light with my 660, on high and it still wasn't 100% happy. Popped in the 970 set everything to max and it was still waiting for more :) Build quality is as to be expected from KFA2, very well put together product.
Another thing to mention is that Wootware is one of the only stores accurately advertising the 970's specs while everyone else is still using NVidia's slightly misleading specs. Happy camper here! - Very good quality for the price!!! - Jason, 15 January 2015
I bought this puppy and must say its a great card. I'm very impressed with the build quality from Galax, it has an awesome back plate and a full metal shroud for extra cooling - they pretty much match the the Gigabyte,MSI and Asus brands if not better. Also this card is one of the highest overclocked 970's out there and card runs exceptionally quietly with one fan spinning and the other one kicking in on full load and very low temps at full load not exceeding 55° witch mean you have plenty of head room to overclock it and still keep the temps at a constant low.
I would definably recommend this baby if you're on budget for a cheaper GTX 970 you won't look back :-) - Excellent Buy - Matthew, 8 January 2015
Decided I was done with AMD's Crossfire woes and sold off my 2x HD7950 for this beauty. (ended up paying in a few hundred)
While my last setup had marginally more raw GPU grunt, this card is so much quieter, cooler and less hassle - I wouldn't think about going back.
Out of the box this card TurboBoosts to ~1360 MHz (!) - one of the highest GTX970s around. Being the festive season and all I haven't had much time to ticker and benchmark. Though I did run a few benchmarks and paid a good bit of Far Cry 4 (50-60 fps on Ultra 1080p). At stock settings (and in +30c SA summer temps) this card runs at mid to high 60s during heavy load. I found the fan very quiet (unlike my 7950s blower style fan). By default it only spun up to ~50%. Using MSI afterburner I increased load fan speed to about 80% and the card was still barely louder than the rest of my PC. This results in mid 50s temps during gaming.
Having some headroom, I thought an overclock was in order. Still with MSI AB, I settled with +150 MHz on the core and +400 MHz on the RAM. (+37 mV and 120% power limit). This meant ~1500MHz clock speed and temps back up to max 69c (fine with me). Note that Nvidia's turboboost system makes OCing both easier and harder - easier because you just slide up clock speed etc and it does the rest, but harder too because the card will throttle itself for temps and power - often without you noticing. My settings resulted in 1504 MHz constantly when gaming.
Build quality is excellent - fan shroud is all metal and full back plate both looks sick and prevents flexing. Note: this particular GTX970 has 1x 6pin and 1x 8pin power connectors which gives more power to the card, but make sure your PSU supports this.
The only Con I can think of was a very minor coil whine (high pitched electrical sound) during the intro to games (Ubisoft etc) - when the card is pumping out like +1000 fps. It wasn't overly annoying but is noticeable. Fortunately this was fixed for me by enabling Adaptive VSync in the Nvidia control panel for all 3D applications.
Using a 3570k CPU (@ 4.2 GHz) and 8GB RAM, I got 10.5k points in 3dMark Firestrike.
