The Realtek controller causes overheating that starts a vicious cycle of further overheating and requires the device to be unplugged before it stops drawing power. Whenever any large write is performed on the SSD it might trigger this scenario once the dirve starts overheating it makes it worse.

I purchased the Orico M.2 enclosure to perform a clone on a migrating HDD, and it performed flawlessly. It comes with a heatsink and thermal pad - the enclosure itself is an aluminium heatsink, and it does get quite warm but I take it as a good thing as its expelling heat away from the drive inside.

I see no issues with this enclosure and feel comfortable using a drive in it for extended periods as fast moveable storage.
