- 140mm Phanteks FAN - Hennie, 6 October 2021
Amazing cooler over price and built quality has always been amazing. MID fan is a bit tricky to get in and out and keep this in mind for cleaning purposes. Otherwise for general gaming it keeps my CPU nice and cool.
Just note it is big, very big. - Monster CPU cooler - Matthew, 21 June 2021
Easy to install, looks great, extremely massive but just make sure you have enough space and that your ram isn't sitting too high off the mobo. Only thing id add would be RGB just because, why not I guess...
- Superb Air Cooler - Rameez, 28 January 2021
Pros:
- This cooler definitely works as it claims, Idle temps are always sub 30deg getting as low as low 20s.
- Under heavy gaming it averages around 60deg+- with your odd spikes to 75deg max. Now you might think that's terrible temps? In general yes it is but I'm now running my i7 4790k @4.7GHz with 1.305V stable.
- Under no OC/stock I never exceeded 53deg under all games tested.
- Woots service team
Cons:
- Physical cooler was a bit dirty on the mounting plate after sticker removed. Had to clean it first with a solution and also noticed the area didn't look polished at all.
- Some minor marks on the mounting brackets.
Overall definitely worth the purchase esp for the price ~R1300. - Bucking Fig Cooler - Dylan, 17 July 2020
Great cooler, would highly recommend if you have the space. But be warned, it is BIG. Running GSkill Trident Z RAM you have to offset the one fan to clear the dims. I opted to only use one of the two fans and my 9700k running the AI XMP2 profile and my CPU has not hit 50deg yet. I also had to go for a conventional GPU mount as the cooler is too big to run my 1070 vertically in my Meshify S2 case.
- Highly recommended cooler. - Pieter, 30 June 2020
I'm super impressed with this cooler in terms of quality, performance and value. When I got it I was a bit worried because the manual didn't show support for AM4 mounting. However, the AM3+ instructions worked perfectly with my MSI B450 board (keep in mind you need the backplate that comes with your motherboard. I was upgrading the stock cooler so that was no problem. The thing is very high quality, even the plastic fans are made from sturdy heavy plastic. Mine sits on a ITX motherboard in the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX, which makes it look ridiculous - it covers the entire motherboard. I love it. The case barely fits it though, you'd need to get slim fans if you want to have this cooler installed with top and rear exhaust. If you're on the fence on this cooler, I'd go for it. I paid R1300 and it's so worth it.
- Works great - Adriaan, 26 June 2020
I Bought this cooler to replace my stock AMD wraith cooler, and while this thing is massive, it works like a dream
Installation was fairly easy with the most difficult thing being figuring out what way around the mounting bracket on the motherboard must go.
Initially I was a bit worried that wootware does not sell the additional fan for this cooler, but 2 fans are doing a great job ad has dropped CPU temp from 70- degrees to 30 degrees. - Awesome cooler - Russel, 6 March 2020
Massive beast of a cooler, runs super quiet, and cools pretty darn well when you actually remember to peel of the sticker on the base of the cooler.
I'd gladly but another if my other cases could fit it, but its generally really good looking as well - only possible issue is ram clearance but it fits some fairly high RAM provided you can lift the fan high enough and have the height clearance in your case.
It should have the newer fans when i read the box, but the ones i got included were the high static pressure 7-blade fans and do seem to be performing better, so no complaints. - Nice Upgrade - Nicholas, 2 March 2020
I am a sucker for big air coolers, and this was a worthy upgrade from my Thermalright Silver Arrow. My CPU temperatures are better and the cooler is near silent at idle and light loads.
- Not Noctua but you won't complain - Joseph, 6 August 2019
I recently got myself a Ryzen 7 3700X and coming off the experience of the Ryzen 2700 with its wraith spire cooler I was hard pressed into buying any additional cooling. However after 2 weeks of using the included prism cooler I was fed up with the noise.
I'd had my eye on this cooler for a long time however the big issue is that the cooler is big. I wanted something like the Noctua DH15 which most reviewers goes wild over but we do not have the brand locally. After watching some reviews it does seem this cooler is an acceptable alternative.
After benchmarking and running a few games I can say without a doubt if you have a large case with good ventilation this cooler is definitely worth getting if you don't mind its size. The fans has a low RPM but manages to keep the cpu cooler than the Prism. You can hear it ramp up the fans but its just just noticeable as a change in pitch. - The Noctua alternative - Geoffrey , 12 April 2019
Very nice cooler.
Just note that it will not fit in the Enthoo pro M when using the halos on the roof fans as the fit is very tight. I made it fit by removing the fan/radiator tray bracket and mounting the fans directly to the roof of the case. Mounted the roof fans with cable ties as I don't want to make the existing ventilation holes bigger with the fan screws in case I change the layout in the future. Luckily the whole roof of the case can screw loose to mount the fans easier. So yeah it was an operation getting everything done but was worth it in the end. Also to note is that A LOT of pressure needs to be put on the 2x tightening screws in order for the threads to grab so I suggest removing the motherboard when placing pressure instead of bending your board inside the case.
I like to play with old tech so the Phanteks PH-TC14PE replaced my old Coolermaster V8 cooler with a coolermaster 120mm Excalibur fan that made a lot of noise. Load temps dropped with about 10C and idle about 5C. Running a i7 1st gen socket 1366 x5675 Xeon OC'ed from 3Ghz to 4.3Ghz max load temps are at about 73C from 83C with intake temp of 24C. I recon this cooler will be the closest you can get to the Noctua D14/15. So to summarize the cooler:
Pros:
Built quality
Low noise level
Ideal for OC
Extra mountings included for a 3rd fan lol
Looks impressive
Packaging clearly marked for the parts to be used
Good ram clearance
Fan height adjustable
Noctua alternative
Cons:
May not fit in all cases
May need to remove motherboard to make installing easier
140mm fans have 120mm hole placement that should be noted when you want to replace the fans with your own.
Can't think of anything else to say...If you need a cpu air cooler get this one. Wish I could upload a pic as I am very chuffed with my build.
- Best air cooler available locally - Andrei, 10 September 2018
I was not that impressed with the cooler when I first paired it with my 8700k
After I had my 8700k delidded and had liquid metal applied between the CPU die and IHS this cooler really started to shine. It hardly break a sweat now cooling my 8700k at 5GHz and the vcore at 1.32 - temps usually max out at 71C
- Exceedingly good price vs performance - Water cooling alternative / rival. - Jarrod, 24 January 2018
-UPDATE-
I reviewed this cooler May 30th 2017, I tested it with an i7 6700k @ 4.5Ghz @ 1.326 volts with various tests (see review by Jarrod in this thread for details about that). I have since delided the cpu and replaced the thermal paste with Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut liquid metal and resealed everything. As a result of the thermals being lower after deliding, the cpu now runs at 4.6Ghz @ 1.376volts stable. Here are the temperatures with this cooler using the same tests as before after the delid.
Aida64 stress test with all the stress options selected excluding local disks and including the gpu.
Maximum achieved temperature was 59 degrees c. Ambient temps were 23 degrees c. Case ventilation remained the same as before, All fan slots occupied in the CM Storm Scout 2 with a moderate to aggressive fan curve. Past vs present temps see a difference of 10 degrees c in this test.
Other than stress testers, I have observed gaming temps to be around 48 to 55 degrees c depending on the game. So ja, if you seek reliable high performance cooling, stick with this cooler and if you dare, go the extra mile, delid your cpu and get amazing temps. - Excellent, but gigantic - Chris, 9 November 2017
I've bought this to replace my old ThermalRight Ultra Extreme 120 (dual 120mm fan) that cooled my i7 920 when I now upgraded to an i7 8700k.
I love the looks of the cooler; its almost dead silent (when using smart PWM fan curve and not running it at 100% fan speed) and got outstanding cooling performance.
Unfortunately due to the nature of the TIM on the i7 8700k, my temperatures at full load (~4.3GHz on all cores) are still about 64'C, and then drops to like 35'C within 1s the moment the CPU load drops to idle. So I'd guess the next step would be to delid the CPU and void its warranty...
This cooler is absolutely massive in terms of width/length compared to my TRUE120 cooler, but its got the same amount of little (1 - 2mm) clearance with the side panel of my old Coolermaster 690 II Advanced case.
The clearance between the fans of the cooler (without moving them from the default position) and my Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM is probably like 0.5mm :) - so please take caution when buying this cooler and you don't have low profile memory!
The installation process took a while for me, since the distance between the mounts wasn't correct on my first couple of attempts.
- Excellent Thermals with Low Noise! - Justin, 28 June 2017
Using this to cool my 4790K for around a month now and the results have been great. Overclocked the CPU to 4.5GHz at 1.250 volts and temps max out at 70C with ambient temps around 22C. The fans are virtually silent in idle and barely audible at full speed.
Aesthetically, it is really great in my opinion, the black tower with contrasting white fan shrouds really adds a touch of class. The only small issue I had was with the mounting brackets and making sure that they are in the correct orientation before installing the cooler or else the mounting screws will not line up correctly. It would be nice to have some arrows pointing inward to show which way the bracket is meant to be.
If you have the space for such a cooler, it really is a must have for its great thermal and acoustic performance. Highly recommended! - Excellent build quality and performance, water cooling alternative/rival. - Jarrod, 30 May 2017
I have this cooler on top of a Ryzen R7 1700 cpu with the following configuration:
Clock speed: 4.0Ghz (overclock of course)
Volts: 1.400
I have also tested this cooler on a i7 6700k with the following configuration:
Clock speed: 4.5Ghz (overclock of course)
Volts: 1.326
First, the R7 1700...
Aida64 stress test with all the stress options selected excluding local disks and including the gpu.
Maximum achieved temperature was 68 degrees c. Ambient temps were 23 degrees c and case ventilation was excelent (Xpredator Areocool case with all them fans yo, fans were set to a moderate to aggressive profile).
Now the i7 6700K...
Same test as before.
Maximum achieved temperature was 69 degrees c. Ambient temps were 22 degrees c and case ventilation was excellent (CM Storm Scout 2 with all the fan slots occupied with a moderate to aggressive fan profile).
For perspective, I have the 120mm single tower baby version of this cooler mounted on the i7 6700K as a permanent solution, the same test gets the chip to 83 degrees c.
Apart from performance, the actual build quality of the cooler is really really good. It is very sturdy, especially the fins, you don't get the feeling that you need to pay special attention to not bend or snap fins or anything. Also, interestingly this cooler fits into the CM Storm Scout 2 case even though the cooler height limit claimed from Cooler Master tell you that it won't. On paper the cooler exceeds Cooler Masters height limit but In fact I had about 4mm of space between the side panel and fan once everything was closed up which is more than enough, UNLESS you have tall ram, the amount you have to raise the fan to fit the ram may close that gap, I can't tell you if it will or not because I have low profile ram.
Lastly, the mounting procedure for both AMD and Intel was very easy. Not stress, just one recommendation to save you some rage, definitely try plug in the fans to the motherboard before mounting, you will need baby fingers to get it connected after installation or install it outside of the case if you're building from scratch. Ram clearance may be an issue but you can solve that by mounting the fan slightly higher up.
