The most Laptop you will get south of 20K.

I opted for this model because the 17" Wootbooks were out of stock. I reassessed my needs, did some research and saw that AMD Radeon opensource support was actually quite good in Linux lately. I'm glad I opted for the smaller Wootbook.

Everything just works in Linux. I use Debian and even getting Open CL was as simple as installing the correct packages - no jumping through hoops, compiling or tweaking things by hand.

This little powerhouse will form the core of my mobile setup and will soon be joined by a trackpad and a portable Viewsonic 2nd monitor.

tl;dr: Fantastic hardware for a superb price; particularly super compact form factor and extremely lightweight. But had serious screen colour miscalibration in the Windows 10 pre-install done by Wootware.

I ordered the laptop mid-December just before Wootware festive season closing and needed it urgently for remote work over the festive season break. Unfortunately, like many South African online retailers, light go out over Christmas for the SME sector. So where much of the rest of the e-commerce world considers Christmas the biggest sales window of the year and operates on all cylinders until the new year, at Wootware, the lights went out for 2.5 weeks. And so my order did not get out the door and I ended up having to wait nearly three weeks while out of pocket for close to R18k. This is the part, where I do wish that Wootware could one day achieve a size and scale where it can operate closer to a 24/7 fulfillment. But neither here nor there.

That said, the team at Wootware were excellent in communicating every step of the way and kept me informed of any delays. Thanks to Dominic in this regard.

Also, despite not ordering Windows with the machine, the team offered to do a pre-install. Great! But in hindsight, this was probably the worst part of the experience with more on that later.

The best part though, the team found that the original Sabrent SSD I purchased separately for the build, was not compatible with the laptop resulting in a boot failure. So they offfered an alternative make and model that was actually slightly more expensive and would cover the price increase pro-bono to avoid further delays. Really fantastic customer service! Thank you, Wootware.

So to the big downside: Unfortunately, when I finally got the laptop, the screen colours were incredibly out of whack with super high contrast. Now, in my 25 years of working with and building PCs, I've never experienced such a big colour distortion, so at first I wasn't sure what to do. Some research suggested to use the Colour Management application in Windows, which simply didn't deliver any improvement. The screen quality was simply terrible! After a few days of this and trying various means to fix the situation, I was close to returning the unit as faulty. but salvation came in the form of a third-party app called Calibrize 2 (which you won't be able to download on their site, but have to find an alternative download for). This finally helped find a suitable setting after three full re-calibrations run throughs! (That's how far off baseline the screen settings were.)

Long story short! Am really happy with the laptop and would have given it 5 stars, if it hadn't been for the messed up colour calibration. But thank you, Team Wootware, for the effort and the excellent communication and customer service experience!

Amazingly small and light, well built, clean chassis and obv. great performance with Ryzen. Only gripe is the font on the keyboard, but that's personal preference.

I've supported Wootware since 2013 and I was thrilled to see them release their own line of laptops. What I did not expect, however, was for the AC adapter to be so old-school. It feels heavier and larger than the laptop itself, and will not fit in any slim laptop bag. The adapter is a throwback to the old "bricks" circa 2005. Heavy, big, and untidy. By contrast I also own a 5 year old Asus Zenbook which has a tiny charger as small and light as that of a modern cellphone.

I was also disappointed to learn that this laptop is not assembled here in SA, but is in fact a product of China. Like many South Africans, I actively avoid Chinese products that do so much harm to our local industries. Had I known it was made in China I would never even have considered the purchase. It's probably my fault for not investigating further, but I felt let down by Wootware in that regard.

That said, the performance of the laptop is as good as advertised, the IPS screen is fantastic, and customer service/support from Wootware has been as excellent as always.

The laptop is surprisingly light and well built. My only gripe is the slightly uneven keyboard and lack of usb 3.1 Gen2. The usb-c port does not support display over usb. None of the usb-c docking stations work. You will need a displaylink type dock in order to add aditional monitors.
The AMD 4700H is surprisingly powerful and I am able to do my cad work on SpaceClaim without issue. No other laptop comes close to this one in terms of price/performance.

This laptop has changed my working life completely. The keyboard design is great and the fact that I could choose my own specs according to my needs were amazing. I have yet to experience a problem with this laptop but doubt that I ever will. It works and loads apps and programs so fast, I am very impressed with my overall experience of Wootware and the Wootbook.

Been using the Wootbook Metal 2 for nearly a month now and it performs perfectly and as expected based on a review for a very similar overseas model, the Mechrevo S2 Air: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7tsBjnQEXg4 ...but actually perceptually better thanks to Wootware’s comprehensive service.

Pros:

-Excellent customer service re the order. Empathetic answers to my questions and a willingness to accommodate requests unlike any company I’ve interacted with before. Also excellent delivery time.

-Experience out of the box is better than any device I’ve ever used including stuff like TVs and iPhones. Wootware updated Windows and installed go-to's like VLC so that upon turning on the device it was as if I’d always owned it. They provide a checklist of the numerous checks and updates they’ve performed.

-Performance of the 4800H is excellent. I ran multiple CPU and GPU benchmarks and stress tests and the laptop performed perfectly, almost exactly the same as the video in the YouTube review I mentioned above. It does get a bit hotter under CPU load vs the overseas version, but not above 75 C, which is perfectly fine and you barely feel it. It’s a little slower too but I expected that due to the slower RAM I selected. Nevertheless, I can see why this is the 3rd fastest Laptop processor according to the Centurion Mark. And for this price, you’d think it’s too good to be true but the tests don’t lie.

-Even though it’s not meant for gaming it can run Fortnite at competitive settings at 1080p 60 - 75fps.

-Bells and whistles like WiFi 6, and colour accuracy good enough for photo editing and more as listed Wootware’ specs.

-There are too many other pros to mention.

Cons:
- The bottom fan grill can be depressed enough to scrape the fans if I lift it by that area when carrying it. That is the one true con of this laptop in my opinion. Solution: just don’t hold it there.
-Screen is not as bright as my phone (300 nits vs 800 nits) but comparable to any laptop I’ve used before.
-Trackpad and keyboard don’t compare to a mechanical keyboard and gaming mouse but are comparable with Lenovos and Dell laptops I’ve used before.

Other notes:
I got the HDMI port to output HDR by switching to YCbCr 420. Haven’t check if that’s practical for HDR content.

Conclusion: This is the best workstation laptop available in South Africa for around R15000. Both product and support. I actually don’t understand how they can be offering this product for under R20 000

* Works with generic 5.5mm x 2.5mm 19V power supplies (including both my Toshiba, and ASUS ones).
* Replaceable RAM and NVMe modules.

Would love to see the 15.6 inch version in South Africa too ;-)

I got this Wootbook for 3D designing work for my wife and I can honestly say for the price there is nothing out there that can match the performance from a value perspective. I got it kitted out with 16GB RAM and 1TB NVMe drive. Performance is top notch and the build quality is also good. However I am going to take 1 star away due to the fact when you choose the options, on the bottom you have to pick the charger. I did not know the product comes with a charger due to the fact that you can select the 90W charger. I would have liked it that the sales team could have advised me that the Wootbook comes with a charger and I do not have to select a charger. Now I'm sitting with two identical chargers and that made me feel disappointed with the sales team at Wootware.

I recently purchased a Wootbook laptop, and I am very happy with it. The machine functions extremely well, it is small and compact. It love the fact that it is also so light and portable. Even though it is only a 14" display, the quality of the display is such that it is still easy to read (even with my mature eyes) Plus the price was great

got this unit for development work, where i can really let all 8 cores run wild, and with 32GB of ram to keep them fed with work, they really get alot done.
I pretty exclusively use an external screen and peripherals, but the track pad is nice.
The fan can get loud under load (i wear headphones so i dont care, but everyone else in the room gets mad).
This was easily the most performance for my money at the time of purchase!

Glad I know about wootware now. Great value.

This is an exceptional product, with the footprint of a Macbook Air, but with incredible performance. The screen is a FHD (1080p) IPS display, which is bright, colour reproduction is great and outdoor use is excellent too. They keyboard's tactile response is a little tougher than my existing Macbook Air's and isn't quite as "premium" in feel but is still decent quality. The webcam is 720p and is on par with most mid-range cameras. Build quality is solid and the laptop is a delight to carry, weighing just over 1kg. Battery life is 4-6hrs but can be extended further depending on the usage model. The trackpad is large and feel great when tracking.

I was considering a high specked Dell XPS 13, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13 and easily this laptop outshines from a price/performance perspective. Admittedly, the competition can come with higher specked screens, but at a significant price premium and performance hit.

Service was excellent too, and I challenged the Woot team to shorten the delivery cycle, which they exceed my expectations on.

Wow, I did not expect such a marvel. Using Linux Mint with 5.8 Kernel on it and is a dream to use. Keyboard is good and with Proper kernal the Touchpad is very nice and large.

As expected, the hardware is great! The build is surprisingly very good too. The only drawbacks are the bottom build (seems very weak - can hear clicking sounds when held) and the fan noise gets quite loud sometimes. Overall, I'm really enjoying it! Definitely a worth it.

I'm very satisfied with my purchase of the wootbook metal II. It's efficient, lite as a book and packs a punch!
