- Best bang for buck laptop - Marius, 23 January 2020
The laptop performs surprisingly well in regards to the cost bracket. One would assume that the build quality would suffer, but it hasn't.
Best bang for buck laptop in my opinion. Over the years I've had expensive laptops and budget performance laptops. And this one is by far the best budget performance laptop.
You still get the insanely high heat on components, but that is expected.
The screen is of good quality.
The keyboard is fair. I've obviously typed on better keyboards. But for a laptop, it's good. I'm a bit worried that the keys won't last the lifetime of the laptop. The addition of RGB is nice for gaming. I use mine to color code certain keys to find them easily.
I use my laptop for work (software development), and it's served me well. My only complaint is that the keyboard is not the best to type on, but is good enough to use as a daily driver.
Gaming wise, it's been performing exceptionally well with its RTX 2060. Won't run everything on max, but that's OK. It should be market relevant for at least 6 years.
I cannot comment on the trackpad, since I don't use it.
The amount of ports on the laptop is impressive, and I like that.
The built in speakers are also above par, which is nice when you watch a movie or series on the go without headphones. - Super beastly and VERY fast - Rogan, 21 January 2020
I am a 3D generalist and occasional gamer. For further context - My main Desktop PC rig is RTX 2080ti , 9900k, 32gb Ram.
Reason for purchasing a laptop - I wanted a portable (and powerful) version of my desktop rig so I could basically travel more and keep up with my renders etc.
Okay so firstly - I am the kind of person to research (THE HELL) out of any product I buy, be it small or large. After spending countless hours watching spec and review videos on various top of the line laptops from the GS65, Helios 300, Razer, Dell etc etc. NOTHING beat the value of the price to performance than the Wootbook (TongFang chassis). I got the 2060 variant.
This Laptop is honestly super beastly and VERY fast. I have read that a lot of people have aesthetic issues with the keyboards but i honestly love it. Its a solid laptop mechanical keyboard that is very tactile and responsive.
One thing to keep in mind that with a lot of power comes a lot of heat. This laptop runs pretty warm when gaming and when rendering at about an average of 85 degrees. However I haven't experienced any major throttling.
A good tip is to keep it plugged in at all times as the speed drops quite significantly to try and keep the battery lasting. Not really an issue though.
My only gripes -
- It runs pretty hot - I think I will definitely be researching safe ways to cool this beast more efficiently.
- I have no idea why but when i play a game and turn on the fan boost button my cpu temps jump a full 10 degrees from 84ish to a constant 95. REALLY WEIRD. hopefully this is a bug and its reading incorrectly. Basically its better to leave that fan boost off?
Conclusion -
Would I buy this laptop again? DEFINITELY. It is the most powerful and affordable laptop I have ever owned and I am extremely happy with it. Heat and all :) - Sleeper Car - Theunis, 13 November 2019
I've had this for almost 3 months now and am extremely happy with it.
Pros:
• Build quality is solid and the price for this level of specs is fantastic.
• Its a high powered workbook that can handle video editing and is great for gaming.
• Keyboard has a nice feel to it, making typing a pleasure
• Great graphics, good screen
• Compact and no unnecessary "bling" or frills.
Cons:
• Battery life is too short which can be challenging when traveling for work.
• When gaming, the keyboard is not half as responsive as cheap mechanical keyboards.
• Cooling and airflow seriously lacking, especially when gaming. The space above the keyboard becomes so hot you cannot touch it for longer than a few milliseconds and that is despite it being on a cooling pad with custom build 140mm extractors fans set at airflow outlets to pull heat away from the laptop.
Verdict:
I use this 80% of the time for work and 20% for gaming. This is a power-packed performer, however battery life and the long term reliability of the hardware due to the heat factor
Would I recommend it? Absolutely, Would I buy it again, Yes.
This is like a sleeper car, on the outside it appears basic and practical, which I love, but when you step on the throttle you know this is no ordinary beast. - Pretty nice - Marco, 8 October 2019
Have had it for a few hours so far, and first impressions are:
- the build quality of this thing is pretty good, and it's even lighter than my old Y5070 which I found pretty light for a "gaming" laptop. There's no chassy flex, including on the keyboard, this thing is solid,
- I thought 144Hz was a gimmick, I got this laptop for the RTX 2060/Tensor cores for light AI work, but it definitely is not, even noticeable in normal usage when scrolling.
- The SSD's are pretty fast, the WiFi is also good, maxing out my 100Mbps connection copying stuff over the 5GHz network while I'm also running a quick tracer to see if any packet loss/drops, seems none.
- It's a pretty good keyboard for a laptop once you get past the spacing, the tactile feedback is very nice, I'd say only Lenovo's Ideapad line comes close, no Dell I know does.
- Color accuracy is pretty good, been comparing it next to a color calibrated monitor, seems quite accurate, and viewing angle is pretty good, definitely IPS comparable.
Note I am using a normal W10 Pro install, this is a fresh copy as I had a spare retail key from an old desktop I'm not using anymore, so all driver installs are normal windows default, not going to install fresh drivers yet as waiting on Tensorflow to sort out their CUDA 10.1 compatibility before I do.
Going to be running some benchmarks in a little, might update this post with results, but note it will not be with the "proper" drivers, so will be slightly worse results than it probably could be, probably Prime95 and FurMark. Overall, this machine is pretty nice. - 5 Stars - Will, 13 August 2019
I have been playing Need for Speed Payback on my new WoodBook & the graphics are exceptionally good looking & smooth. I am enjoying it very much.
- Performs very well - Randell, 12 August 2019
The only problem I have noticed so far is the kettle plug into the power supply is very loose and easily dislodges. Other than that, the unit performs very well.
It would have been nice to have Windows Hello support and maybe a fingerprint reader but these are not critical. The unit came in at a great price-point for it's performance - Great value for your money - Justin, 12 August 2019
Build quality feels premium, keyboard is excellent, screen is excellent, thermals are solid/in line with the usual name brands. Overall it offers great value for your money.
Using it daily for both work and gaming. - Extremely Impressed - Clive, 28 June 2019
Excellent unit and extremely impressed with quick service
- Extremely satisfied - Stephan, 28 June 2019
The WootBook is a well designed laptop. The simple, slim design gives a great aesthetic.
