- Not Just Good For The Price - Barend, 25 April 2025
This keyboard beats the stuffing out of every other keyboard i have ever owned, it is such a pleasure to type on and is quiet enough for office use. These keyboards are always sold out when i look and that is testament enough to how good they are. The software isn't great but its good enough if you really need it, good luck finding it though.
- BUY IT - Monte, 27 December 2024
TL;DR: It is an excellent keyboard and deserves to be considered for your purchase!
Pros:
- Built like a tank
- Cannot beat the price
- The design is beautiful
- Extensive feature set like swappable switches, function knob, on board macros, on board functions for media control etc
- Responsive keys
- Can customize the color of each key's RGB (although if you do this, it is only in solid mode. No breath, or rain etc. effects)
- Removable braided USB C cable
Cons:
- The Brown switches are not as CLICKY as some other mechanical keyboards. There is still a distinctive click but much quieter than other louder mechanical switches.
- The primary keys like ENTER and SPACE feel a bit mushy. They do not click / snap like the rest of the keys. But typing on it for a brief time makes this unnoticeable
- The knob has set functionality. Cannot change it outside the 3 functions: Control volume, control webpage zoom, change RGB settings
- The RGB lighting can be stronger. It is lit at the bottom of the key. The keys DO NOT pass through the light (i.e. the characters do not light up)
My Notes / Experience:
I never write reviews, but others have to know how nice this keyboard is for the price.
The one we ordered did have a slight scuff mark on the keyboard face (by the num lock), however it was minor enough that the user did not care about it.
Buying the Freedom for a custom dark-academia / white+black mix setup, I was concerned it would be too light and break out of the theme too much. However, the blue/greenish color of the keyboard face blends really well with a darker setup, while the white keys just pop out at you. It is a wonderful balance. So even in darker setups, the Freedom version will work really well.
The software seems janky, but is actually more than enough to configure everything you need for the keyboard. It stores everything on the keyboard so when you are done you can just uninstall the software.
The knob only works on the Volume Up and Volume Down hook in Windows. For this setup we set up Voicemeter Potato and enabled the hook via the menu and it works perfectly. It now controls the A1 output inside voicemeter.
The keyboard is sturdy and feels very premium. We've seen much higher end branded keyboards come through with a much less sturdy build and premium feel.
Although I was personally disappointed with the Brown switches initially, after several typing tests it really started to grow on me. The click is subtle and sophisticated. Instead of the clunky loud metal trashcan click from other boards, the click isn't overbearing. It is just enough to satisfy that itch in your brain, but not too much to where it becomes annoying to the person next to you. It is actually quite addicting. I am very impressed after just a short use.
The body is also fascinating. Unlike other boards where the body feels like it is hollow, essentially amplifying the trash can sound of the switches as it bottoms out, this keyboard is dampened. The result is the switch clicks because it is clicky, not because it is hit against the body. The actuation feels smooth even satisfying. After typing on it for a while it actually felt like my hands got a massage with that classic tactile sensation you get when rubbing a piece of fabric or something.
Overall, I am very impressed. I am interested in seeing what Montech does next keyboard wise, but if this is the measuring stick, I think we can expect great things from them.
- Great keyboard, I've bought multiple - Matthew, 28 November 2024
I initially bought the TKL Freedom for work and loved it so much that I bought two full-size ones for my home setup and my wife for work.
The quality is exceptional, but for the price, it really does challenge "brand-tax" competitors where you pay more for the name.
These keyboards are sturdy, well-built and of exceptional quality, the keys are so "thunky" and my colleagues are considering buying these as well.
Going from blue switches to these was the best decision I've made for my setup, it's almost disgusting typing on anything other than my TKL and full-size MKey now. 110% recommendation. - Really great keyboard for long hours coding - Omri, 9 August 2024
I really like the look and feel of this keyboard. It is pretty heavy and a very solid build. It also sounds incredible and the tactile response you get for hitting the keys is so good.
Wootware's service was also incredible. The product arrived a week before I thought it would. Great job. - 10/10 - Righard, 6 November 2023
Quality feels great better than my corsair k70 that I had before this.
Looks awesome and love the feel of the switches
Waited a month for it but it was out of stock and I live on a farm so shipping takes a while.
Very Pleased so far with keyboard and the service from Wootware was great as always.
