- You need this in your PC at this price! - Craig, 19 May 2019
It's crazy to see that you can now buy a 1TB SSD for this current price. My 1st SSD, an OCZ Vertex 4, cost more than this, was 2.5" in size and was capped at SATA 6Gb/s. This little drive is physically smaller, much faster and is 4x the storage capacity. The SSD revolution is finally in full swing I reckon...
I can't comment on the raw performance of this drive as either a boot or storage drive. I am using this as a tiered "fast" drive on my motherboard, using the Enmotus FuzeDrive software. I now get the benefit of 5TB of space (this plus a 4TB mechanical) whilst getting much better performance in games after the first launch, as the FuzeDrive software essentially moves the files to the SSD, transparently in the background. Next time the game launches, it's running from the SSD and it's so much faster! No more manual file management and yet another drive in Windows!
There is a cheaper drive available from Wootware (Mushkin Helix), but I suggest using this instead. The extra performance doesn't break the bank and it's worth it in the long run, as I believe this drive has the better SSD controller on it.
Do be warned though that the drive itself comes in very spartan plastic blister packaging. Although it seems quite snug, I do think there is a possible risk of damage during transit, so do a quick visual inspection before opening up the package. There is otherwise nothing else in the package except two little paper cards. Makes sense in a way, since money saved on packaging is savings passed onto us as the buyers.
Overall, I believe this drive is worth every cent and is completely recommended at this price point!
