Dell SE3223Q 31.5" 4K (3840x2160) 60Hz 4ms VA AMD Freesync Desktop Monitor

I moved from an 8 year old Dell 24" 1080p display to this. The difference is night and day. Installing the Display Manager software is great for controlling the display, but frustratingly, some functions can only be adjusted using the physical buttons.

I have it set up on a fairly shallow desk which means that I do notice some slight colour shifting on things at the far edges of the screen but it's nothing dramatic and definitely not a deal breaker.

The "fast" response rate is really nonexistent since setting it yo anything other than normal introduces a lot of ghosting. Normal does just fine, though, do it will do.

Having spent about a month with this monitor I can report the following.

The good:
Excellent value for money! Dell seems to nail that aspect every time. This is my second 4K monitor and while not IPS like it's 27" LG predecessor it is a little bigger. The built in power supply means no extra power bricks to annoy you. While the picture is not as "poppy" as on my IPS this VA panel has come a long way since my last VA Dell (a 21" FHD model). The refresh rate is good but using the fast or fastest setting results in significant inverse ghosting - so best leave it at normal. Do install the driver and Dell Display Manager software as using the Dell D6500 Colour Profile does make a positive difference and the software is less finicky than the buttons on the monitor. Power consumption is better than I expected with this monitor drawing about the same as my older monitor.

The bad:
I am using this with a VESA wall mount to obtain the best stability. The included stand picks up vibrations even from typing on a keyboard and this leads to the screen wobbling. I tried to remove the stand using the instruction in the manual but after 30 minutes I gave up and simply unscrewed the base from the metal mounting that clips into the monitor. It is still there at the back of my monitor and cannot be removed. The monitor only comes with an HDMI cable, if you want to use DP then provide your own cable. The manual shows you need to sit with the monitor at or below eye level - I found the bottom part of the image to be washed out a bit with it below my eye level. Rather sit with the middle of the monitor at eye level to minimise colour and brightness distortion.

Considering the above, and the price point, I am giving these 4 stars, only loosing 1 star for the flimsy stand which I could not fully remove after trying it out. If you VESA mount this and not even touch the included stand this is a 5-star monitor.
