- Great budget cpu, if not greatest value for your money - Michiell, 9 August 2022
Got this little guy for my first pc as I could not get an R5 3600 in stock, well over a year later it's still running strong. I'm not the type to be hectic into overclocking and extensive monitoring and this cpu just does what it needs to do with 0 complaints. For the price I got it at around 2.3k I really cannot argue with its price to performance.
- Beast - Matthew, 27 January 2022
Awesome CPU
- Fantastic - Dylan , 12 August 2021
This is an excellent cpu for its price. Its performance is basically on par with a Ryzen 5 2600 and can be overclocked to match it. Runs most games perfectly and is an all round great product would definitely recommend if you're gaming on a budget
- Great CPU - JJ, 24 July 2021
I brought this cpu for my brother since he was looking for an upgrade. I switched to the 2700 back in 2018 and is my first AMD cpu since I've used only Intel. Can say that I dont regret switching and with this basically being a 6 core variant of my 2700, my brother gets exactly the same performance I do in games. Can recommend!
- Awesome price/performance - Michael, 21 June 2021
You're not going to find better price/performance than this. Quite impressed with the performance of this 'little' chip. I recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade a 5 year old PC.
- Intel.....an Era in it's beginning of the End - Hennie, 17 May 2021
I have been an Intel Fan for all of my life since I bought my first pc, A IBM Desktop 286x intel processor and for almost 30 years I have been watching AMD struggle to keep up due to the overheating on their CPU's, yet they kept on going and going and finally made the big break with the 2nd gen That led to where we are now with Intel just becoming a 3rd grade regarding any of the I CORE CPU's. They are out ranked, out performed and still extremely expensive when compared to AMD. So I decided to give AMD a shot with this little CPU.
Now you have to understand that this is not the Normal R5 1600, the R5 1600AF is a relaunch of the first one with small changes that makes a huge difference. One is that it uses less power thus emitting less heat. So Over clocking becomes reality's. I bought 2 of these CPU's both running 700 Mhz over it's boosted speed of 3.6Ghz at a total of 4.3Ghz all day everyday.
This making the R5 1600AF the only CPU under R2500.00 retail with 6 cores and 12 threads stable over 4Ghz that's Air cooled with a multi core benchmark from CINEBENCH at 12876 score making the top 10 just under one of Intel's I9 11th gen CPU @12901 score that cost roughly R12000.00. The AMD in this aspect where I need it at the price and performance is absolutely brilliant even with the price tag of a GPU it is still far better than any I5 from Intel, not to mention cheaper. - Budget Beast - Pi, 29 March 2021
It's no secret by now that this CPU is basically an R5 2600 with a slightly lower clock speed, and the cost is well worth it. You get 6 cores and 12 threads to play with, which can really hold their own with most CPU-intensive tasks you'll throw at it. Very much recommend to anyone looking to build an AMD system with a dedicated GPU, as it's only a couple hundred Rand more expensive than the R3 3100, and also gives you 2 more cores and 4 more threads.
- Capable Budget Processor - Quinton, 19 March 2021
For the price, you won't get better. Its essentially a second generation Ryzen processor for less than the original price of the first generation version of it. And with 6 cores and 12 threads its still a lot of bang for buck. It can't match latest generation in terms of performance and it may or may not work on the new 500 (X570) series motherboards depending on BIOS support. But for a budget processor that can also do some decent gaming on a 300 or 400 series motherboard, its a winner at the price. And don't forget, it can overclocked easily on the right motherboard. The cooler is no more than adequate, but unless you intend to overclock, it should be fine. Recommended, but do your homework if long term upgradability is being considered.
- u Best cpu ever if you don't want to break the bank - Blade5576, 17 March 2021
Let me say this: Just having a browser open(Opera GX) and windows 10 in the background with a antivirus(Norton) the cpu utilize about 9%-11%, but before you say that's a lot, after you have opened your tab to load it goes to 1%-2% utilization. Temps with the wraith stealth cooler are not that hot. In 23 degrees ambience the cpu temp is between 36 and 41 degrees Celsius. If I play games it never uses more then 40% cpu usage and some heavy duty games will use 54% max. The best GPU pair up for this cpu is the RTX 2070 or RTX 2070 KO. If you use a RTX 2080 it will bottleneck but the RTX 2080 uses 81% utilization with this cpu. You can run on the highest 2k resolution with this cpu. 1080p resolution is no sweat for this cpu. Pair it with a DDR4 3000 MHz or 3200 MHz RAM and you gain extra performance. AMD loves RAM speeds. If you use a SSD(I use a crucial MX500 SSD) it is fast and responsive. Do yourself a favour upgrade to it if you can. I went from my almost 9 year old i3 3220(2 Core,4 Threat) CPU to a Ryzen 5 1600 af. I got 77%+ increase in performance from the i3 3220 to the Ryzen 5 1600 af. Also I have to thank Wootware for the delivery and the crew, it was fast, clean and safe. I would support locally and definitely buy from them again. If they can get stock for the rx 5500 xt I will buy it because it is a good pair up for this cpu.
- More than enough CPU for the average user/gamer - Michael, 17 March 2021
Combined with an entry level Mobo and an SSD this should be more than enough for the average gamer and workstation user. Considering it will only bottleneck a GTX 1060 6GB and up there is no need to get more CPU power if you are not a hardcore gamer
- Awesome Cpu - Lorenzo, 6 March 2021
Absolutely love this cpu.The price for this 6 core 12 threaded cpu is an absolute steal.Great service and will definitely shop with Wootware again.
- Great value - Rico, 4 March 2021
Awesome little cpu and has amazing performance at this price. I bought this on behalf of a friend and he says it's working great. Absolutely stunning service from wootware as well. definitely buying from you guys again.
- Best budget cpu - Ethan, 1 March 2021
From price to performance I think the ryzen 5 1600 af is the best.
- Awesome + Fast CPU - Ricardo, 26 February 2021
Fast delivery ,easy install and fast and budget friendly CPU! [the recommended upgrade if you are on a budget!
- You won't get better performance for your $$$ - D., 2 February 2021
As others have noted, this is essentially a 2600, the older 1600 released in 2017 was created using the 14nm process, this is 12nm and slightly lower clocked than the original 2600.
Here is the review:
https://www.techspot.com/review/1977-amd-ryzen-1600-af/
TL;DR :
"For budget builders with access to the 1600 AF at $85, there is simply no better choice. As we said earlier, the Ryzen 5 2600 was already amazing value at $120. Thus, the 1600 AF which is basically the same CPU for a further discount is just an insane deal." - Awesome service - Jacques, 9 January 2021
My little brother loves his new Ryzen 5 1600AF CPU
- Value for money - Daniel, 23 December 2020
Still top of its class. Value and performance. It has yet to use its full potential, with software updates and games evolving this cpu has not yet stretched its legs.
- Excellent Value - Hein, 20 December 2020
Excellent value, this gives you a LOT of CPU for a good price. I use it with a B450 chipset and 16 GB RAM, tested it with Linux and Windows 10, good performance on both. Thanks Wootware for good service and fast delivery
- Probably the GOAT - MJ, 10 December 2020
What can I say that hasn't been said countless times before.
In todays climate that is December 2020 Year of the Covid, rtx 30 series,rx 6000 series, amd demolishing intel and an assortment of everything 2020 had to offer..
This is the go to entry level cpu...yeah..you read right..
the sheer performance for value this cpu offers at budget is mind blowing and stocks will not last period.
I didnt need this as i have a R5 3600.
this cpu i bought for shits n giggles for my other rig that does netflix and chill.
With a320 mobo,R5 1600 AF, 16gb ram and a 1050 ti oc 4gb/rx570 4gb,1 tb hd and 128gb ssd and 500w psu i had spare.
Yes my bare budget pc can do 1080p gaming on high settings on most games at 40-55 fps.
Dont think about it,just buy the Cpu for bare bone budget builds. - AWEsome - Shane, 8 December 2020
Got this with the B450 chipset, works like a dream and put it to the test with using Docker and Virtual box machines. It handles them like a true champ as of AMD. Added in the great support of Woot, cant go wrong here.
- Money well spent - Branken , 17 November 2020
Upgraded to day from my old ryzen 3 2200g to this new little beast paird with my RX580 8gig nitro plus. I am very satisfied with the performance so far no complaints works flawless with my old X370 motherboard as well. Thank you woodware for the speedy delivery and grate service.
- Awesome CPU for the price - Nishay, 5 October 2020
After using this cpu for a while, i love it. It has the power when you need it for gaming and whatever else you throw at it. Wootware sent my cpu in the best packaging making sure it arrived in the best condition and without any hassles, thank you wootware.
- Lil old BEAST - Ntando, 30 September 2020
I recently upgraded from a R3-1200 to this CPU, and Oh man the difference is so big. My videos render much faster now. The Best bang for the buck processor
- Update on previous - Jacques, 10 September 2020
The build is complete and running for 2 weeks now. The Ryzen 5 1600af is an absolute beast, don't let someone convince you otherwise. Even with gaming and editing it barely make full use of it's cores. Paired with a proper AIO like the coolermaster ML240R this cpu will run very cool, my temps haven't reached past 34°C while playing games like gta5 on a hot day. With the stock cooler I haven't had any temps above 50°C with heavy use. Perfect purchase 11/10 points.
- Great upgrade option - Hanro, 24 August 2020
The Ryzen 5 1600AF is a great budget CPU upgrade for gaming and other tasks. Haven't had any issues with it thus far and the performance increase in quite noticeable
- No Regrets - Jacques Wilbur, 11 August 2020
For the price and for its performance you can't go wrong.
I am not one for Overclocking but have seen people getting stable overclocks up to 3.8Ghz but with a better cooler or at least if you have a decent case with sufficient airflow.
Due to budget constraints I decided to add this CPU to my hardware purchase but man was I wrong when I thought it would just be another "budget processor".
It is wonderful little 6 core beast, and it handles everything I throw at it.
- Excellent Value - Cuan, 9 August 2020
I bought finally upgraded my aging i3 rig and I chose to go AMD this time. Being a long time AMD GPU user I decided to give their processors a try too. This a steal of a price for CPU with these specs. I've been happily running this since end June and couldn't be happier. Props to the team at Wootware for the excellent service as well. You won't be dissapointed purchasing this especially if you're on a tight budget.
- Huge Boost - Claude, 3 August 2020
Being a gamer, newer titles were really starting to rip my PC to shreds. Decided enough was enough and took the plunge to upgrade. This CPU has massively increased my pc performance in games. To the point where i can now reliably get above 100 FPS on most games at high settings in 1080p
- Fast delivery - Jacques, 15 July 2020
I purchased the Ryzen 5 1600(af) a couple of weeks ago, I still have to test it as I'm building my pc piece be piece. I will update once the build is complete. The ordering process, payment and delivery however was fast and painless and their customer support feedback was just as fast and helpful. If I have any trouble I would like to see how good the support is for returns and so on, but I'm holding my thumbs that this will not be needed because I can't wait to see this CPU perform. From a technical standpoint it's a monster disguised as a lamb, with a price to match.
- Value for money can not be beat. - Morne, 10 July 2020
This is hands down the best value for money. Not only good for gaming but exceptionally good for the budget conscious productivity user. This processor gives the same performance of a 2600. Just the memory controller is retained from the original 1600.
- Beautiful - Bertrand, 1 July 2020
wonderful processor, handling everything I throw at it.
- Best bang for your buck! - Stephen, 24 June 2020
Great CPU. I agree with all the other reviews. I had to update my bios before it worked on my ASRock A320M-HDV motherboard so the install process was very long but now that its up and running, I couldn't be happier. None of my games under 77 FPS at 1080p.
- A must buy - Stephan, 19 June 2020
Paired with my Rx 580 and 8gb of ram, I could not be happier with this cpu. Hands down the best value cpu on the market if you are on a relative tight budget. The 1600 af basically makes the 2600 obsolete. It performance is basically identical and its a bit cheaper. The 1600 AF is a great all rounder in terms of performance and price. I would not recommend any other cpu at this price point.
Great service from the wootware team as well. - Looks like a CPU, walks like a CPU - Ohan, 22 May 2020
Oh my gosh
It is a CPU, a pretty darn fast one at that.
My web server couldn't be happier and there are no known vulnerabilities to patch!
Pew pew - Good Value - Super, 18 May 2020
This is great value for money, excellent for video editing, gaming, and for basic work stuff. It shares the same 12nm architecture as the Ryzen 5 2600, but with lower clock speeds. This pretty much makes the 2600 less worthy of your money since this CPU can be overclocked to meet the 2600's clock speeds and even exceed them, unless overclocking isn't your type of thing. The 1600AF stays below 50 degrees celsius in Linux with the included cooler, even under a near full load. Slotted right into a B450 motherboard with no issues, which is to be expected..but still mentioning it.
- Perfect - Shuaib, 11 May 2020
Works perfect. Initially thought it was the normal 1600 as there was no indication of the box or on the processor but after researching the serial number it indicates that it is the AF model. No issues, COD - Warzone working smooth
- Great Product - Nikola, 30 April 2020
Could not be happier with this CPU it is essentially a Ryzen 2600 performs exactly the same but it is 41 percent cheaper than the later model. I would highly recommend it especially for this price to get a 6 core processor and 12 threads is unheard of you won't go wrong by getting this.
- Great value for money - Vincent, 30 April 2020
I'm very happy with this CPU, its a massive upgrade over my aging I5 4460
- Fantastic CPU - Frans, 28 April 2020
This thing absolutely flies! It has about 88% of the gaming performance of the Ryzen 5 3600, but at 61% of the price. To bottleneck it in games, you would need at least an RTX 2080 in most games. In general tasks it is amazing as well. I cannot recommend this CPU enough.
Read more here: https://www.techspot.com/review/1977-amd-ryzen-1600-af/ - Amazing bang-for-buck - Dieter, 3 April 2020
Running latest games with ease and super affordable. Really pleased with this product and it's running at 3.7GHz out of the box, no overclock.
- Fantastic value - Christopher, 2 April 2020
As the page says, this is not first gen Ryzen, even though it looks like it is. It's basically a Ryzen 5 2600, but cheaper and you could overclock it to match a 2600. I can't rave about it enough. It hits that price to performance ratio perfectly.
- Awesome upgrade - Tiro, 30 March 2020
Upgraded from the Ryzen 3 1200 to this 1600AF and wow the stock performance is great. I might overclock a bit but not yet certain. It is a great value CPU to be honest. Good for some video editing and gaming.
- Great value - Thomas, 26 March 2020
If you are not aware, this is a 2600 on the 12 nm process that is only clocked slower. but internally, the 1600 AF is exactly the same as a 2600. I obtained a stable. If you are willing to do some light overclocking you can match a 2600 in performance or exceed a stock 2600 in performance.
