- Terrible Noisy VRM Design - Junior, 6 August 2024
I've owned this board for a little over a month now and in terms of performance and specs, it is a good board. Everything functions as it should and does about everything a motherboard should do, as it should. Except for the VRM design, the VRM whine on this board is absolutely shocking. It is insanely loud and non stop, not even on idle. I've been scratching my head trying to figure out what was making the noise. At first I thought it was my PSU (Corsair RM1000x) seeing as I couldn't really pinpoint it, but it is noticeable when doing work on desktop or even on idle with the screen off. Ever heard loud GPU coil whine? Imagine that but constant with intermittent 2 second breaks here and there. Tried tweaking AC LL and played with power and undervolt settings, nada. It's just a terrible design. There are videos on Amazon and YouTube to show how bad it is.
Maybe I got a defective unit right? Nope! I found this out when I checked the Amazon reviews for the boards and saw a ton of reviews, like A LOT of reviews, complaining about the constant VRM whine and bad design and it finally made sense. I would recommend to just stick to a different brand for mATX as Gigabyte really fumbled with this generation. Thanks to Wootware for the excellent service, but yeah... Gigabyte dropped the ball hard here.
