- Powerful and Efficient - Matthew, 30 August 2024
This CPU offers outstanding performance for both gaming and productivity tasks. It handles multitasking effortlessly and stays cool under load, thanks to its efficient design. Whether you're gaming, editing videos, or running complex software, this CPU is more than capable of delivering top-notch performance.
- Absolute must for AM4 gaming - Greg, 5 August 2024
I changed out a 5900X to this in my gaming PC and moved the 5900X to a different machine. There is a noticeable drop in heavy workload performance vs the 5900X, but in every single game the performance is at least 10% higher, often more than that. Some titles exhibit extreme boosts in fps, probably due to particular game engines needing lots of CPU cache, I noticed it with Unity engine games especially. 25+fps boost in Escape from Tarkov is a transformative experience. If you have an AM4 board and play games, this is a no brainer upgrade if you don't want to move to a new platform. DO NOT USE PBO it will damage this CPU and not necessary for performance. Turn it off in BIOS.
- Beast - Tyrone, 11 April 2024
This is a beast of a CPU for Gaming. For anything else rather take the 5900x has more cores. A lot of apps doesn't benefit from the extra cache this CPU gives but boy does it perform in games. If you are looking for a upgrade from am3 this is it. The last CPU from Prev gen from AMD and it doesn't disappoint.
- Price for performance unbeatable - Charl, 1 April 2024
So before even saying anything else this is a gaming CPU through and through calculations is obviously not the best if you're using it for that I wouldn't recommend. As for the gaming part of this the performance is truly insane. Benchmark comparison against a i9 9990k yields 30 to 35 percent performance increase and in game same for FPS. Required some tweaking on PBO and Scalar to get it to push closer to 4.5ghz boost (maybe just the motherboard I used as I went cheap) CPU definitely runs hot though so would recommend decent CPU cooling such as AIO Water Cooling.
- AM4 went out with a bang - Kyle, 28 March 2024
If you're not yet ready for AM5, this is it. For gaming at least
Just make sure to get a good cooler as the X3D part makes it harder to cool compared to counterparts - Exceptional value - Jean, 25 February 2024
- Typical operating temperatures range from 45°C to 70°C.
- Comparable to 7600X but doesn't require a platform change if already/still on AM4. - Amazing - Kappe, 18 December 2023
Super happy with product performance and super happy with the great service received by Wootware!
- Zero Stutter - Cameron, 14 December 2023
Context: came from a 5600x 32gb 3200mhz rx 6800 x570 and game on a tv with a controller at 4k120hz 10bit VRR. I did look into AM5 but with the same quality of components it's quite a bit more pricey for comparable performance. That all being said it pointed me to max out my AM4 system to give it a couple more years of extra life.
I held off this upgrade for a while as the frame-rate uplift isn't the highest at 4k. HOWEVER what I can say is there is zero stutters at all (I'm sure there are but coming from a 5600x if feels like there are non). It just feels SMOOTH and buttery. I heard about this in the reviews (HW Unboxed, GN etc) but to feel it in all the games I play it's a HUGE difference in how everything feels. If you're getting 60fps it feels higher cause of zero stutters.
I've you've got AM4 I'd recommend this just for how well the extra cache eliminates stutters. It does run hotter and rated at 105w tdp compared to my old 65w tdp of the 5600x so I upgraded from the stock cooler to ID-55 which is working well enough to not throttle whilst gaming. - Great CPU - Dane, 6 November 2023
I had an old computer sitting around with an MSI X370 motherboard, after a bios update it supported the Ryzen 5800 series. Grabbed the 5800X3D which breathed new life into the system, it's a great CPU and when paired with something like a 4070, makes for a great low wattage gaming experience that runs on my inverter. The only con I have is that it runs pretty hot, had to replace my cooler with an aio. Highly recommend this CPU if you are on AM4
- AM4's final hurrah! - Erich, 19 June 2023
Coming from a 3700x this upgrade just makes sense. The price to 5800x3d vs the price to 7000 series (for a new motherboard, ram and CPU) is so big that I cannot justify paying 3x more. To have near top end performance with little of the cooling drawbacks is fantastic.
If you are on AM4 this is a fantastic choice if you just want the fastest CPU for gaming while paying as little as possible. - Great end of gen upgrade - Brandon, 9 June 2023
I replaced my 3600XT with this and was expecting a decent improvement in some games but wasn't expecting the massive gains it ended up giving me, very impressive performance paired with a 7900xt @ 1440p. Around 40% improvement on average, with some games doubling FPS.
- Awesome CPU - Don, 13 May 2023
I have been using mine for about 6 months. I am very happy with the purchase, it performs very well
- A great CPU, depending on your needs. - Damian, 10 March 2023
I upgraded from a 3700X to the 5800X3D to take advantage of the extra L3 cache. The CPU performs very well, especially if you're needing the extra pump for gaming! For normal day-to-day use, it seems to work to much the same noticeable performance as my previous CPU.
- Cache goes BRRRR - Janco, 14 December 2022
Great cpu, upgraded from a 3700x. Paired with a deepcool ak620. Runs quiet and cool (never exceeds 75 degrees). Totally satisfied with this upgrade. Crazy to think the AM4 platform was supported for so long and saw such good performance uplift. 1% lows are much better and the experience is much smoother. Just a pity this cpu is not that great at desktop work.
- Fantastic CPU - Barend, 8 December 2022
This was a fantastic upgrade from my Ryzen 5 5600, the 1% and .1% lows in games have improved greatly, i never knew games could feel so smooth. The only issue i have with this CPU is the fact that it runs really hot, any kind of benchmark sends it to 90c immediately so make sure you have a sufficient cooling solution.
- Odd - Patrick, 8 December 2022
If you leave the turbo on then expect temperature to rise past 70C on water-cooling. Off, it sits happily at 58C. Performance benchmarks don't show its capabilities, in fact it on par with my old 3700X. Still the best price / performance CPU for AM4.
- Awesome CPU - Thys, 5 December 2022
This is a great CPU and the performance increase is great. It is just really hard to cool under certain circumstances. I had to limit the PPT in the bios to keep the CPU under 90C under certain workloads.
- Best AM4 chip for gaming, with a caveat - David, 30 November 2022
The reviews are right, this is basically the best chip you can get for gaming on AM4. Only exception is if the game already fits into the cache of other chips (eg. Counter-Strike), in which case the better clock speeds on other chips are better. That said, if the game fits into cache chances are good that the framerate is already at your monitor's limit. Also the biggest difference this makes is to the minimum frames, so frame dips are less severe generally and motion appears smoother even if the average or median aren't much higher.
I'm running this on an Asus x470 board from 2018. Needed a firmware update (over USB) and it works perfectly. The longevity of the AM4 platform is crazy. If the next-gen prices are too much for you to stomache, like they were for me, then this is the go-to if you can get your hands on an AM4 board.
Also note that you can't overclock this afaik, but the performance is excellent out of the box. Install it, turn on DOCP and ReBar, and play. - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D - Philip, 16 November 2022
The swansong on AM4 platform is still competitive against newer AM5 CPUs, the current specials makes it more inline with North American pricing. Wootware was very efficient throughout the purchasing process.
- Great Upgrade on AM4 - Jaree, 14 November 2022
had an Ryzen 7 3700x upgraded this and on x470 with RTX 3080 and got 60 plus frames (an average of 30fps increase) in Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing enabled (Ultra). Couldn't be happier with this purchase.
- Excellent AM4 CPU - Metroid, 7 November 2022
Wonderful, drop-in upgrade for an X470 AM4 board. Gaming performance is excellent!
- Best price to performance CPU at the time of writing. - Jacques, 27 October 2022
At the time of writing, the new generation of CPUs from AMD is extremely expensive. This CPU is on par in gaming performance with some of the newer ones while costing much less.
- Nice upgrade - Leigh, 23 May 2022
Updated the BIOS on a Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 motherboard and it just worked with no problems. Very good performance, runs nice and cool with an undervolt. Kudos to AMD for fulfilling their promise on AM4 compatibility.
- Best CPU upgrade I've ever had bar none. - Dawie Nel, 20 May 2022
Okay lets start with the cooling and while this CPU can work with a 65 watt Wraith stealth cooler, expect close to 90c in most CPU intensive games.
It still performed reasonably well, but it did throttle down to 4300MHz so I bought a Scythe Fuma 2 after that its been a blast besides for Cinebench it always stays at it max clocks of 4450MHz.
Lets talk Production, well I don't do production, but its similar to my laptops which have 5900HX CPU's maybe a tad bit faster.
I get 2500 points in R15 and like 5500 in R20 so its not bad at all for a gaming only CPU, beats my 1700 OC'd to 3.8GHz by like 800 points in R15 and 2000 points in R20.
Okay so the real test is with gaming and it absolutely destroys in gaming like I've never in my life had such a massive increase with one upgrade, even going from my RTX3070 laptop GPU's to a RTX 3080Ti didn't feel that great.
I mean try running heavily modded Kenchi on anything other than this CPU, even my 5900HX laptop CPU's couldn't cope with that game.
Even with my RTX3080 Ti OC'd I couldn't completely CPU bottleneck Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 720p and Horizon zero dawn at like 720p with DLSS it would hit over 300 fps and the GPU would still be running 100%.
Check out my YT channel where I've done tons of Benchmarks with the games that I play at different setting.
Also Dota runs at like between 300 and 600 fps, my lows were even above 100.
